Building of the tramway from the Minerva mine to the Esmeralda mill, mentioned in the times a few days ago, has been abandoned. The management of the Esmeralda were too slow and exacting to suit the Minerva people, who concluded to wait upon their movements no longer, and concluded to have a mill of their own, and have it close to the mine. H.O. Anderson, J.H. Hopkins and H.S. Smith, the principal owneres of the Minerva mine, went to work and incorporated it into a joint stock company and have purchased Bogles 40-stamp mill, which will be taken down and set up on Blacktail, where the ore can be run direct from the mine to the mill by ore cars. The Minerva, when rigged out with a 40-stamp mill will be a bullion producer, as it is on the same channel, a continuation of the one that the Gustin mine is located upon, and from which there has been taken out $1,000,000 and the end, for aught anybody knows, is not yet. The Minerva mine is just opened, but under the new management that has been inaugurated active measures may be looked for.

Gustin mine, with a thirty-stamp mill, has taken out $1,000,000 and their last clean-up went over $8 a ton, and no man knows the extent of unbroken ore contained in the Gustin mine. We have made enquiries and from a reliable source have ascertained that during the year 1883 but little was done, the management being in the east most of the time discussing the advisability of erecting a large mill on the premises. There was, however, mined and milled during the year 15,000 tons of ore, which resulted in a clean-up of $82,500, an average of $5.50 per ton.

Mr. King claims, and we think truthfully, that the entire body of ore will average over $8 per ton. With a big mill to redfuce it, the Dakota Maid will be a bonanza.

In regard to: Dakota Maid Mine

Clark Rorapaugh took twenty pounds of ore from the Dakota Maid, a location in Strawberry gulch owned by him and Joe King, reduced it in a mortar, treated it with quick, and the result was a button that weighed $1.80. This would make $180 to the ton, and when it is remembered that there is an immense body of ore, iti will be seen that a big mill would make a bonanza out of the Dakota Maid. Capital is all that is required to bring this country to the front.
